The Turkish bath, or Hammam, operates at a temperature of 40°C and features high humidity. Heated benches and floors, along with a domed ceiling, contribute to the iconic Hammam experience. Hammams are typically lined with marble, ceramic, or glass tiles and adorned with intricate ornamental designs, maintaining the rich cultural tradition of the Oriental bathhouse.
In the heated benches, there are special basins (known as “kurnas”) from which visitors use bowls to pour water over themselves. After warming up in the steam, guests are treated to a series of body massages. This includes a peeling massage with a coarse mitt called “kese,” followed by a luxurious foaming massage that completes the cleansing process.
