How to Keep Your Pool Clean and Crystal Clear

Category:

To fully enjoy your pool, regular maintenance is essential—your water should always be clean, clear, and properly sanitized. Maintaining water clarity involves mechanical cleaning, while keeping it clean and disinfected requires chemical treatments.

Mechanical Cleaning:

Mechanical cleaning removes insoluble contaminants such as leaves, hair, oils, and sand. At least 50% of the water fed into the filtration system should come from the pool’s surface, as this is where the most contamination occurs. This is achieved through skimmers and overflow channels that suction the surface layer.

For residential pools, the filtration system should be designed so that the entire water volume passes through the filter in approximately six hours. For public pools, this filtration cycle should take around four hours, while for children’s pools, it should take about two hours.

Filtration Speed:

When using sand filters, filtration speed is a critical factor. The primary function of the filter is to “capture” insoluble organic and inorganic contaminants, preparing the water for disinfection. The most common types of filters are sand, diatomaceous, and cartridge filters.

The Heart of Your Pool:

Think of your pool like a living organism—the water pump is its heart, ensuring proper water circulation. Together with the filtration system, it works to keep the water clean, clear, healthy, and refreshing.

By maintaining proper filtration and sanitation, you’ll not only have a pool that looks pristine but one that is safe and inviting for you and your family to enjoy.
